Shell Key West Challenge - Three days of fun and sailing in Key West to benefit the Diabetes Research Institute. Dates for 2010 are April 22-25. Hundreds of thousands of dollars go to the Institute, with over $2 million to a few charities in the past two decades. The Shell Key West Challenge started in 1989, donating to the National Mental Health Association. When a grandson of the founders was diagnosed with diabetes, they switched over to the Diabetes Research Institute.
Anglers stay at the Key West Westin, right on the main harbor area of Key West. The days begin with fishing and end with weigh-ins around 6 or 7 pm. Dinners, breakfast buffets, and award ceremonies round out the full schedule. |
