Half Shell Raw Bar - The Half Shell Raw Bar has one of the coolest logos/signs in town. It's a 40's era Spanish pinup girl with a tray of oysters. It's immediately recognizable and you can buy t-shirts there, some of the coolest souvenir t-shirts in town. The best time to go is from 4:30 to 6:30 during the week, when it's happy hour. Oysters are just 50 cents apiece. You can't even buy oysters that cheap in the supermarket.
It's raw oysters, mind you and if that doesn't appeal to you then well you might not think Half Shell Raw Bar is all that great. The fifty cent oysters are the only deal on the Happy Hour menu. A tiny basket of tiny conch fritters is still six bucks. These are not the best conch fritters in town, either. The conch is so rubbery.
They do serve Blue Moon on tap, to the delight of many fans. The burger ordered rare was not even warmed up on the inside. It was just raw, cold hamburger. But the service was great. We sat at the bar, so friendly bartender was always right there, and very attentive.
Half Shell Raw Bar is located on Historic Seaport, near Turtle Kraals restaurant. If you take the Yankee Freedom to Dry Tortugas, it's right there when you get off the boat. Great location, great bartender, great deal on oysters, and the best thing about Half Shell Raw Bar is the t-shirts. |
