Key West Seafood Festival - Every January, locals gather at Bayview Park on Truman Ave and have a good ol' time enjoying seafood. The park is lined with vendors, but these vendors are special. They are local artists selling Key West-inspired art, soaps, and t-shirts. And they sell delicious local seafood. Every tent is another delectable offering, whether is be Key West pinks (that's shrimp for you out of towners), lobster, or best of all, Stone Crab!
There are also booths from the Florida Keys Marine Sanctuary, Fish & Wildlife, etc. They offer a salt water touch tank, staffed with real live scientists who can answer all your questions about the critters in the tank. Kids love this! See the giant lobster, a starfish, conch, sea urchins, and types of lobsters you have never seen before, like the Slipper Lobster.
It's great fun, and there's a band in the grandstand. Folks bring lawn chairs and hang out in the January sun, or sit at picnic tables under tents if the sun is too much. It's laid back and lots of fun! |
