Key West Poker Run - Key West Bike Week is welcomed with a hearty revving of engines across the island. In the midst of slow tourist season, this annual event brings bikes, people, and much needed cash into the city. Key West Poker Run involves motorcycles who register in Miami, then drive the Overseas Highway from Miami to Key West. They stop at participating bars and pick up a playing card at each one. The best hand of poker once they arrive in Key West wins.
Of course it's really all about the great route they take through the Florida Keys, and the whooping good times they have on Duval Street in Key West. Duval is closed off to four-wheeled traffic and the bikes line the streets on either side (see picture below), parked perfectly in rows for everyone to marvel at. There are $100,000 motorcycles here, and you won't believe how beautiful the paint jobs are on these hogs. Yes, most of them are Harleys. Key West Poker Run is fun for everyone, even if you've never even thought about motorcycles before. Think of it as art on wheels!
