Rick's Key West - Rick's is probably the biggest club scene in Key West, with the biggest dance floor and the most bars and floor
space in one locale. Rick's Key West actually consists of 5 different bars, with multiple venues for live
music, DJs and karaoke. It's the center of nightlife after 10 pm in Key West, and if you want to party all
night, this is your first stop.
Located on the 200 block of Duval Street, Rick's is the only bar in Key West where you get scanned at the
door. After being wanded (there's no cover), go up the stairs and you are standing on the main dance floor,
where you'll here mostly hip-hop being played. There's a DJ booth against the far wall, mirrors on the other
wall, and a bar to your right. If you don't like hip-hop, you might get lucky and here some techno or top 40
radio popular songs, depending on the DJ. If it's before 10pm on a Friday, the DJ is playing live on the radio
so he'll stick to mostly hip=hop. There's a giant screen TV that shows videos, and to your left there's a set
of stairs that go up two steps onto an outdoor bar with tables and a view over Duval Street. If you go to the
back of the open air section, there are stairs that take you back down to the ground level, but keeps you still
within the enclosure of the Rick's complex of bars.
Down here you'll find Durty Harry's which has a stage for live bands. There are two house bands, both of
which are very good. They play hard rock and metal covers, which is a good blend considering uptstairs at
Rick's, it's mostly hip-hop. There is seating in front of the stage, with a narrow space that's left open for
dancing. Of course there's a bar down here to, at Durty Harry's. For a bird's eye view of the stage and for
yet another change of scenery, climb the stairs next to the stage and go up the to rooftop bar. You can look
down over the band and across the bar.
Rick's Key West is nightclub central for Key West, and the variety of spaces ensures that there's something
for everyone here. It's Key West's place to see and be seen for the younger crowd, although you'll find all
ages if you walk around the various bars.
