B.O.'s Fish Wagon - B.O.'s Fish Wagon looks like a mess but it's a great place to get a good fish sandwich. It's an old Key West restaurant, which means it's unpretentious and nothing fancy about it. It's got tons of character. Sort of like a weather-beaten shack with lobster trap boueys hung everywhere, along with the occassional old licence plate and customer comments scribbled on the walls and ceiling. It's casual, and everything is served in paper trays with plastic cutlery and plastic cups. Even the wine. There's no AC and there aren't even really any walls to the place but they do have fans with water spritzer hoses in front of them to cool you off as you eat. During a noon lunch in the heat of August, it was not uncomfortable so the spritzer fans do work. The conch fritters here are good. Ask for the mustard lime sauce to go with the fritters. Beans & rice at under $5 is the best deal in town. They put olives and capers in their beans and rice and also serve it with toast. There's a cooler with icey cold water in it for those who don't want soda. Order at the counter then sit down either at a table, a booth or stools that face the street. Burgers are just ok, but most people come here for the fish. The fish sandwich is lightly coated and not too heavy and greasy. They also serve a soft shell crab sandwich, amongst other seafood sandwich type of entrees. Sandwiches are served on Cuban bread, which means light white bread with a crispy crust. It's on the corner of Caroline and William Street, in the Historic Seaport District. If you can find the Waterfront Market, then B.O.'s Fish Wagon is behind that, across the parking lot. |
