El Siboney - El Siboney is where the locals in Key West go for great Cuban cuisine. It's got a large menu with all sorts of authentic Cuban dishes, including Palomilla Steak (Bistec de Palomilla), and Ropa Vieja , which is ground beef in a sauce with black olives. Delicious. Picadillo is another classic Cuban dish that El Siboney does wonderfully. The beef dishes are a specialty, with Ropa Vieja at the top of the list. You might want to order a range of appetizers is you've never samples Cuban food before. It's a good way to sample lots of different items to find out what you want. El Siboney has a huge appetizer menu so it's simple to try things out. You'll see them listed under Side Orders. Try Plantanos Maduros, Croquettas, and Yuca Frita as well as Tostones. Dips come with the appetizers, like garlicky onion dip which is great. Try their sangria to round out the meal, and for a truly authentic meal.
El Siboney also has daily specials at bargain prices. Monday and Tuesday are bargain days, with specials under seven dollars. The restaurant is not fancy or elegant. From the outside it's no much to look at. It's like an old house covered in fake brick stucco. The inside is like a low-ceilinged living room with a profusion of chairs. It's close quarters in there, but the atmosphere is warm and inviting and happy. Once you get your table and sit down you won't notice the low ceilings or how close the tables are. You'll just notice how happy everyone seems to be eating at El Siboney.
