Everyone loves a winner, and the winners are big at the Key West World Sailfish Championship. Every April, offshore boats gather in Key West and the mega white tent is set up at Mallory Square for this big fishing tournament. The boats are big, the sailfish are big, and the prizes are big. Lots of money gets handed out to charity, the local Rotary Club, and the whole thing is celebrated over about four days of extravagence.
There are big boats set up at Mallory Square in case you want to pick up a souvenir while visiting Key West. There’s a big production live band on Friday night of the World Sailfish Championship, and members of the WSC can enter the tent and, according to their website, eat shrimp and hand out giant over-sized checks.
It’s incredible to think about the fabulous boats parked at the slips at Truman waterfront. Go at night after they’ve all come in from the water, and stroll around in front of the Westin, you’ll see them all. Gorgeous boats! Everyone has a great time, but I’m pretty sure this is serious business for those sailfish fishing boats and their crew. Winners take home a hefty sum.
